Artists who influenced Richard Parkes Bonington![]() | Born on 25 October 1802 in Arnold, Nottingham, his mother a teacher, his father successively a gaoler, a drawing master and a lace-maker. In 1817 he moved with his parents to Calais where F. L. T. Francia encouraged him to paint coast scenes in water-colour. In 1818 the family moved to Paris where Bonington made water-colour copies of Dutch and Flemish landscapes in the Louvre.
