Artists who influenced Pelegrin Clavé![]() | Pelegrin Clavé was Mexico's foremost portraitist of the nineteenth century. Born in Barcelona, Clavé studied in Spain and Rome. In 1845, Clavé was invited to come to Mexico as the Director of the Academia de San Carlos. As a teacher and mentor, Clavé influenced generations of Mexican painters, among them Santiago Rebull and Ramon Sagredo.
